Lablu – vermicomposting Entrepreneur!

Mr. Lablu with his demonstration compost pit
Mr. Md. Hafizur Rahman Lablu is local service provider in livestock and works in Pigna Union, Sharishabari Upazila in Jamalpur District. Besides service provision in livestock, he is interested in soil health management for better returns for farmers and healthy vegetables for consumers. In his area land is sandy and the soil easily loses fertility rapidly. Also the use of organic manure is getting less and less.
The main source of organic manure is cow dung. The cattle population is also decreasing due to increase in mechanization of agriculture. Vermi-composting is a good method to produce organic manure.

In 2013, Mr. Lablu, motivated by Field Facilitator Mr. Abdul Mannan, of the Cross-border project gathered technical know-how and took the initiative to produce vermicomposting on his own compound. Then he started producing for other farmers at small scale and got some good returns. More on vermin-composting can be found in the technical leaflet published by the project
